Ever wanted to have silky soft hair that is HEALTHY and not artificially shiny and smooth by rebonding? Here are some of my personal tips for keeping your locks in great condition, naturally! And on a budget too :)

1. Do not skip breakfast.

When you skip breakfast, your body goes in "starvation mode" for the first 4-5 hours of your day and channels all the little nutrients it has to vital organs and neglects your hair and skin which are less crucial for survival.. causing dull and limp hair.. and worse still, hair loss!

2. Eat foods high in essential fatty acids.

Especially omega-3 fatty acids. Yummy foods full of this are flax seed, salmon, walnuts and almonds. My personal favourite is ground flax seed which is great as a cereal or yoghurt topping in the morning as breakfast :)

3. Eat foods rich in Vitamins B-6, B-12, and folic acid.

Bananas are a great source of Vitamin B-6. And I highly recommend Marmite! A low fat, yummy source of Vitamin B 1,2,3,12 and folic acid that is great on toast, crackers, in porridge or on its own as a comfort drink.

4. Do not brush or comb your hair when it is wet.

Wet hair is weak and brittle and tends to break or dislodge from the follicle. Instead, towel dry and comb it after it is dry at roots.

5. Apply conditioner when hair is dry

Do not make the common mistake of applying serum or leave-in conditioner to wet hair! That's just wasting money. Apply leave-in conditioner to towel-dried hair and wrap it in a towel to "bake" the hair in the essential oils of the conditioner, then give it a final rinse with cold water to lock in the moisture.

6.  Olive oil protects your hair

For you active girls who love watersports, apply olive oil on the ends of your hair before swimming or getting into the sea. The oil repels the water and prevents the salty seawater or chlorinated water from damaging the hair.

To healthy hair!
